Safety and Health

Al Furat Star Transport aims to achieve highest standards in safety and health for all employees, contractors and members of the public and also work relentlessly to eliminate injury and ill health resulting from our activities.

At Al Furat Star Transport , safety and health are everyone’s responsibilities of prime importance. The management of each business is responsible for ensuring that appropriate arrangements are made for the fulfillment of this policy and for monitoring its implementation and effectiveness.
To achieve these aims we will:

Ensure the visible commitment of all supervisors, carrying out regular safety audits
Adopt a behavioral approach to the management of safety and health
Seek to eliminate at-risk behavior and dangerous occurrences
Achieve and maintain conditions of work, which are healthy and safe
Provide adequate welfare facilities for our employees
Carry out regular health screening of employees
Provide effective instruction, training and supervision
Ensure that persons employed are both physically and mentally fit and competent for their duties
Ensure that all employees are fully aware of their responsibilities regarding safety, health and welfare
Identify hazards and assess risks and eliminate where practicable
Involve employees at all levels by establishing local SHE committees
Provide and maintain safe plant and equipment
Continuously review and revise company policy and guidance notes
Provide adequate numbers of competent persons to advise on all aspects of safety, health and welfare
Allocate adequate resources to fulfil this policy
Set and monitor progress against performance improvement targets

Current targets

Safety
Ensure that the 2009 Lost Time Injury Frequency Rate does not exceed 0.37

Occupational Health
Eliminate any new cases, or progression of existing cases of :
- Noise induced hearing loss - Hand-arm vibration syndrome
- Dermatitis - Occupational lung disease
Ensure that appropriate Personal Protective Equipment is used if risks are not adequately controlled by other means.

Projects and Clients

EMAL SMELTER COMPLEX, Abudhabi

Phase 1 of the project will produce 700,000 tonnes of high quality aluminium per annum; phase 2 will grow the capability to 1.4 million tonnes per annum.

EMAL will then be the 5th largest producer of aluminium in the world.
